Gillian Morrow

Gillian Morrow is an accomplished sculptor, and her work has encountered recognition both in UK and across Ireland. Morrow is a self-taught artist. She comes from a science background, but she has been involved in art throughout her life, and she started sculpting in ceramic six years ago. Since then, she has been developing her own artistic practice focussing on portraits of strong female figures. She also works on private commissions.
Talking about her art, she comments: ‘I have been drawn to strong female figures, sometimes using body art as a narrative to reflect topical politics or an area that I feel strongly about. I work with a variety of clays, favouring porcelain for portraits. These are solid builds allowing me to modify as I sculpt. Once hollowed the finer details are added’.
