About this work - Created while undertaking a Fellowship at the British School at Rome, Italy, during which time the artist was researching anatomy and medical collections. At this time, she was also visiting vintage markets and collected a number of printed sewing paper patterns, incorporating these into her work as a welcome avenue that she has continued within her practice to date - that of incorporating sewing techniques, materials and processes to explore themes of human fragility and resilience.
Sharon Kelly is a member of the Royal Ulster Academy, and the recipient of many prestigious awards. Kelly works across 2 and 3D processes. She is concerned with the body, with marking and mapping both the physical and psychological, exploring themes of fragility, resilience, liminality and transformation.
