Further information

About this work - Created while undertaking a Fellowship at the British School at Rome, Italy, during which time the artist was researching human anatomy and medical collections. She made the creative decision to limit her palette to red and created a large body of works on paper, assemblages and sculptures that combine observation, awareness of the body and drawing on experience, feeling and intuition.  Kelly's sensibility to the body - the fragmented broken body in particular, are reflections of personal experience of encounters with illness.

Sharon Kelly is a member of the Royal Ulster Academy, and the recipient of many prestigious awards. Kelly works across 2 and 3D processes. She is concerned with the body, with marking and mapping both the physical and psychological, exploring themes of fragility, resilience, liminality and transformation.
