Ashley B. Holmes

Ashley B. Holmes creates paintings that explore states of mind and psychological landscapes often using the iconography of houses.  Inspired by her hometown on the outskirts of Boston (USA), the artist’s Colonial, Federal, and Victorian style houses swim or fly through an unnatural and often wallpaper-patterned environment.  One purpose of a ‘home’ is to shelter from the wilder environment.  Repeated decorative patterns such as flowers, birds and arabesques serve this purpose psychologically as they suggest control, create an idealised scenery and leave no room for uncertainty or ‘ugly’ truths.
