Profile

Majella Clancy

Majella Clancy is an artist and lecturer based in Belfast. She works across a painting and printmaking practice. In her work an Irish rural background acts as a starting point to examine ideas of space, history, gender and place. Working with found imagery and material references her work employs strategies of gathering and reusing as a material and conceptual process to examine and interpret ideas of place and experience.
'Cutting across figuration and abstraction (and more recently text) my practice addresses the ways in which painting and printmaking (in an expanded, hybrid sense) speaks to and from history, activating space, enabling a re-imagining to unfold that speaks to a present moment.' Majella Clancy
