About this work: The image can be read as a reflection of joy, elation and a sort of emptying of oneself to the elements of life. The combination of a lack of ground and the translucent paper ground gives the image a floaty feeling as if the figure is about to depart…. The fan-like shape that veils the head and shoulders echos the historical use of fans by women and the coded hidden messages in their use.
Sharon Kelly is a member of the Royal Ulster Academy, and the recipient of many prestigious awards. Kelly works across 2 and 3D processes. She is concerned with the body, with marking and mapping both the physical and psychological, exploring themes of fragility, resilience, liminality and transformation.
