About this work: 'Lake View is connected to my other work Quoile. It is made using the same process, a digital manipulation of a thumbnail study from the Irish landscape. The same desire to delineate space occurs whilst also a distillation of the marks made in the original sketch. Identifiable sections of text are visible in the foreground, made from collaged book pages occurring as a layer within the source study. To me the narrative of the landscape I paint is important, the land holds stories, sometimes buried deep, waiting to be excavated. The act of painting these places is like a form of excavation, deep layers are all brought to the surface..' Sarah McWilliams

Sarah McWilliams is a multidisciplinary artist. After living and working in England for many years, she lately relocated in Northern Ireland, her ‘home’, and started exhibiting her work in the region. Her recent series of painted landscapes are informed from photos and collages created in response to a particular place and then digitally manipulated. The concept behind this process continues to reflect the power of art to transform the debris of modern life, whilst also reflecting the relationship between person and place.
