Further information

In a series of ceramic sculptures called ‘Docile Bodies’, Hemmat takes a stance against discrimination based on stereo-types as she highlights the uniqueness of each human being. She explains that ‘since the body represents the human, a symbol of an individual and the boundaries that separate him/her from other individuals, this project emphasises the diversity of the sculptures as having different shapes, colours, patterns, words and textures. These works have been based on studies on creation, mythology, gestation, images and sculptures from the Palaeolithic and Neolithic era, and primitive tribal art.'
