Further information

Artist's commentary about this work: 'In the forest, where Laumes live, where stones have imprints of devils running from the angry god Perkunas chasing them with thunder spears, and Egle lies together with the king of Serpents, between their children - Oak, Birch, Maple and Aspen.'

Justė Bernotaitė is an award-winning emerging artist whose work explores how the past leaves its imprint on the landscape. She is particularly drawn to the landscapes of her homeland Lithuania - its forests, rivers, and ruins. Rather than viewing these as passive environments, she sees them as active carriers of complex histories, ancestral knowledge, ancient folklore, and personal memories.
